Late winter blast creates travel nightmare at Westchester County Airport

Winter?s failure to leave quietly turned the scene into every travelers nightmare at Westchester County Airport Friday.
Around 9:45 a.m. a corporate jet skidded off the runway while landing at the airport. None of the six aboard were injured, but the incident stopped all plane traffic for hours. Later in the afternoon, several planes that had been on standby were allowed to take off. However, most other flights were delayed indefinitely or canceled.
U.S. Air and Delta Airlines both canceled their flights for the rest of the day due to weather conditions. Air Canada and Freedom Airlines took a more optimistic view and were trying to depart. Officials advise anyone traveling to call their carrier and check on flights before arriving at the airport.
