Westchester mom gets prison time for fatal DWI crash

The Yorktown Heights mom who pleaded guilty in a DWI crash that killed her daughter's friend was sentenced to 16 months to 4 years in state prison Friday.
Ann Marie Ciarcia, the woman known as "RoccerMom" on MySpace, admitted she drove the wrong way drunk on the Saw Mill River Parkway with her daughter and a teenage friend in the car. Emily Cornish, 16, was killed in the head-on crash. The three were heading back from a night of clubbing in Manhattan. In court, Ciarcia said the incident made her realize that she is an alcoholic.
Cornish's mother said she entrusted her only child to Ciarcia. She said although she forgave her, she still felt Ciarcia needed to be held accountable.
Ciarcia, whose blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was 1.5, pleaded guilty earlier this year to second-degree manslaughter, second-degree vehicular assault and driving while intoxicated. Her husband will now care for their four children, who are all in therapy. To view interview on sentencing of Yorktown mom, go to channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and click on iO Extra.
