Mt. Pleasant cops: Speed a factor in deadly crash

A deadly accident along Route 9A in Mount Pleasant Monday was among four that have police preaching safety.
According to authorities, 22-year-old Carlos Nobrega, of Sleepy Hollow, was ejected and killed when his car crashed in the woods and landed in a ditch. His passenger, 21-year-old Rachel Pappalardo, of Elmsford, called 911 while trapped inside the wreckage. She was taken to Westchester Medical Center.
Police say excessive speed was a factor in the deadly one-car accident; the driver was wearing his seat belt.
Another accident on Route 9A in Briarcliff Manor caused a passenger to lose his right leg and an ear, according to police. They say the driver fled and was later charged with leaving the scene of an accident and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
Two other accidents also occurred on the stretch of road Monday.Police urge drivers to obey the speed limit and pay attention on the four-lane highway, which often carries heavy truck traffic.
