White Plains student's killer gets death sentence in DE

The man who killed a White Plains woman attending the University of Delaware received the death sentence Wednesday.
A Wilmington judge handed down the sentence to 36-year-old James Cooke Jr., saying Cooke's painful childhood was no excuse for his crimes.
Outside of court, Lindsey Bonistall's relatives said the sentence was a hollow victory, considering the 20-year-old can never be brought back.
Cooke, a drug-addicted father of 11, was convicted in March for Bonistall's death two years ago. He burst into his neighbor's off-campus apartment, raped and killed Bonistall then set her apartment on fire to conceal his crimes.
The defense plans to appeal the death sentence.
