S. Salem teen accused of planting homemade bombs
A teen from South Salem who was accused of planting homemade pipe bombs was arrested over the weekend.
State troopers say 18-year-old Ryan Jensen targeted cars and mailboxes, triggering explosions in Cross River and North Salem.
Investigators say they believe Jensen attached a homemade device similar to a pipe bomb to the windshield of a car at the Meadows Condominium complex in Cross River. They say the car belonged to the grandmother of an acquaintance of Jensen?s.
According to officials, sometime either late July 3 or early July 4, the bomb went off. Around the same time, police say another similar bomb blew up in a North Salem mailbox. Authorities say they believe more than one person is involved and continue to investigate.
If convicted of criminal mischief, Jensen could face 25 years in prison. He?s currently free on bail, with a restriction that he has to be home every night by 10 p.m.
