Movement to save Dobbs Ferry hospital has a pulse

? Officials trying to keep Community Hospital in Dobbs Ferry open made some progress in saving the facility Tuesday.
All sides involved in the possible closure of the hospital met with state Supreme Court Justice Orazio Bellantoni at the County Courthouse in White Plains. Community Hospital representatives and the commission that recommended the facility?s closure agreed to pursue informal meetings with the hope of reaching an amicable solution.
A special panel, called the Berger Commission, previously suggested nine hospitals be closed or merged as a cost-cutting measure. Community Hospital was one of the facilities named. In January, the commission ordered hospital officials to start the process of shutting down.
However, a state Supreme Court justice ruled earlier this month that the hospital?s response to the commission?s report was never sought. Therefore, the justice issued a temporary injunction that has allowed Community Hospital to continue operating.
Hospital officials have put together a plan to save the hospital and meet the state?s needs.
