Father-son fishing trip turns tragic in Pound Ridge

A father-son fishing trip turned deadly in Pound Ridge after a borrowed boat capsized Wednesday, killing the son.
Martin Barrientos, 45, of Elmsford, was out fishing with his 76-year-old father, Santiago, on Mystery Lake when their boat capsized.
"They were trying to grab for the boat and couldn't," New York State Police Investigator Timothy Miller said. "Dad last saw the victim as he went under water."
Police said a female who lived near the lake heard screams and called 911. Pound Ridge and Stamford rescue workers pulled out the younger Barrientos' body an hour later.
The victim's father survived by landing on a small rock that enabled him to keep his chin above water, police said. He was taken to the hospital.
State police are unsure how the boat, which was borrowed from a caretaker of an area estate, flipped over and whether the men could swim.
"Anytime you go out on the water, whether you know how to swim or not, it's always a good idea to wear a safety jacket and just let people know where you are," Miller said.
