WC community mourns deaths of two car crash victims

Two fatal car crashes occurred within one mine of each other this week, and the town of Chappaqua is mourning the loss of the victims.
The first occurred on August 9. Greg Cook, a Yonkers native, was heading to Starbuck?s on Greeley Avenue when he was struck by a car. The driver of the vehicle, an 80-year-old woman, had lost control of the car.
Cook was a gymnastics coach in Rockland County.
Cook?s funeral was held at Saint Mary?s Church Saturday morning. More than 200 people attended, including members of the Chappaqua Fire Department, where Cook?s daughter volunteers.
The second crash occurred at the intersection of Quaker Road and Douglas Road.
Police are still investigating the accident, but they say a Saab and a Toyota Camry collided around 3 p.m. Friday. Jerome Kurtzberg, 76, of Yorktown died shortly after the crash. His wife, Susan, suffered injuries.
The driver of the Saab, 62-year-old James Alexander, is in critical condition at the Westchester Medical Center.
New Castle police are asking anyone who witnessed Friday?s accident to come forward with information. The police can be reached at (914) 238-1566.
