Several suspects in custody after fleeing traffic stop
? Several suspects are in custody after fleeing from a car during a traffic stop by police. The search prompted a lockdown at the Annunciation School, Our Lady of Fatima School, Pulaski Elementary School and School 15 in Yonkers, near the Scarsdale border. Authorities say the lockdown was a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the students. All schools that were locked down during the search had normal dismissals.According to police, a patrol car stopped a vehicle shortly after 11 a.m. on the southbound Bronx River Parkway near Garth Road on the Scarsdale-Yonkers border. Five young men jumped out of the car and ran. Police say there were stolen flat-screen televisions and computers in the vehicle.
One of the police cars participating in the search collided with a Scarsdale DPW vehicle. The accident forced the closure of Route 22 at Oxford Road. The officer involved did not suffer any serious injuries. The DPW worker is hospitalized with a broken leg and internal bleeding.The manhunt involved Yonkers, Scarsdale, Eastchester and county police. They searched with helicopters and bloodhounds. Police say they have several suspects in custody, and by 3:30 p.m. the search was called off. The police are not saying what the suspects have been charged with.
