Bullet hits man in car after it shatters windshield

A man was hit in the back by a bullet that also flew through his windshield while he drove in rush hour traffic in Elmsford Thursday.

Emergency crews rushed to the Saw Mill River Parkway after receiving a 911 call around 6 p.m. from the man who was shot.

The man, who witnesses said was elderly and Caucasian, was driving a white Audi.

"He reported to us that his rear window was broken, and then he felt some pain in his back. He exited his vehicle at Route 119," said Capt. John Hodge of the Westchester County Police Department.

Police have not identified the victim, but say he is expected to recover at Westchester Medical Center.

Westchester County Police are in charge of the investigation and ask anyone with information about the incident to call 914-864-7890.
