Walk turns deadly for man in West Nyack

Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a car while he was walking across Route 59 in West Nyack Friday.
According to Clarkstown police, Marcelo Patricio-Crespo Guaman, of Spring Valley, was hit by a car that was traveling westbound around 3:30 a.m. Police say the area is very dark and it is unusual to see a pedestrian on the road.
Police identified the man behind the wheel as 26-year-old Omar Munoz of Stony Point. He's a Rockland County Sheriff's deputy, but was off-duty at the time of the accident. The investigation is continuing, but so far police say Munoz was not impaired by drugs or alcohol. No charges have been filed against Munoz, and police are calling it a tragic accident.
Munoz and emergency responders administered first aid to Guaman, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Route 59 near Crosfield Avenue was closed for about three hours during the investigation.
