Parents: Yonkers school let child leave with strangers

A local family is calling for action after they say their 5-year-old child was taken from a Yonkers school by a man she didn?t know.Police are calling the incident a misunderstanding. However, Kirby and Michelle Andrews say if not for sheer luck their daughter could be missing. The couple claims officials at School 25 let their daughter, Amani, leave at dismissal Monday with strangers. According to the Andrews, a man came to the school to pick up his niece, who is a classmate of their daughter. That man had a friend with him and the Andrews claim a staff member at the school told their daughter to leave with the two men and her friend. They say the two men and two children left together, but eventually one man and his niece headed home, leaving Amani with the stranger. The Andrews say a relative of the Andrews happened to see Amani with the stranger. According to the Andrews, the man told the relative that a teacher at the school told him to take Amani. Amani was not hurt and after questioning the man was free to go. The Andrews say they no longer feel their daughter is safe and will not send her back to the school.
