Clinton Young was officially sworn in Tuesday as the new mayor of Mount Vernon.
Young is set to take over the reins Wednesday morning. At his inauguration, Mount Vernon?s new leader said his first action is to create an ethics commission to review and strengthen the city?s policies. Young also said he?d like to focus on long-term economic development and the city?s young people.
?I?m not entitled to this job. I worked hard at getting elected and it?s my privilege, my honor to serve the great city of Mount Vernon,? Young said.
Young won a bitter campaign against former Mayor Ernie Davis in November. Davis? supporters are still trying to overturn the election results in court. Davis? supporters also tried to stop Young?s swearing-in ceremony, however, a judge rejected that request.
