Father, son arrested for keeping fireworks in home

A father and his son were arrested Friday morning after police found an array of contraband in their Yonkers home.

Police were called to the house at 30 Kenilworth Road on Thursday night with news that a man was threatening to commit suicide with a gun. Authorities arrived at the house, found the man and took him into custody. They also found the contraband. Authorities later obtained a search warrant and returned to the house.

Inside the house, police found 15 rifles, five handguns, $35,000 in cash, marijuana and a variety of illegal fireworks. The contraband was carried out of the house by police and the Westchester County Special Operations Unit.

Police arrested 50-year-old Benjamin A. DeMartino and his 22-year-old son, Benjamin R. DeMartino. Both men were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of marijuana and unlawful dealing in fireworks.

Police say that more charges may be pending.
