Driver lucky after slamming into backhoe

Police say the driver of a subcompact car is lucky to be alive Friday after a crash on Route 9 in Croton-on-Hudson.
Investigators say the 30-year-old woman was driving her Toyota Yaris southbound on Route 9 when she slammed into a backhoe, sending the shovel through her windshield. Police say the impact was so forceful that the airbag sensors on her car didn't deploy.
Authorities say it took approximately 20 minutes to get the woman out of the car. She was taken to Phelps Memorial Hospital.
