Team of the Week: Greenburgh Special Recreation League

Every Sunday, up to 40 special needs children hit the courts at the Ardsley Middle School, where they can play basketball and feel like winners.
The Special Needs Basketball League provides children and teens with developmental disabilities a place where they belong and feel welcomed.
Run under the "Buddy System," children are teamed up with volunteers, many of whom end up forming special bonds with them through coaching on the court.
"You start to know them, you start to know the things they like, the things they do," says volunteer Sasha Helinski, of Dobbs Ferry.
Watching their children play hoops is also a great experience for the parents.
"Just to see him out and about, having a great time, means so much," says parent Tracy Black.
