Police: Woman found dead in Montrose was murdered
Police confirmed Saturday that the woman found dead at the VA hospital in Montrose was the victim of a homicide.
According to investigators, the medical examiner determined that 39-year-old Sabrina Rasa, of Peekskill, was strangled to death.
"We're investigating this as a homicide," says Lt. Dominick Chiumento, of the New York State Police. "The cause of death was asphyxiation from strangulation."
Rasa's half-naked body was discovered by a groundskeeper Friday behind a vacant building on the FDR campus of the Montrose VA Hospital.
State police say it is still unclear whether the woman was murdered on the campus, or if her body was dumped there after the crime.
"Right now what we're trying to find out is if she has any ties at all to the campus over there," Chiumento says.
Local residents were shocked by the gruesome discovery, saying the campus always seemed to be quiet and safe.
