2 years added to swindler's prison term

A judge on Wednesday added two years to the sentence of convicted Hudson Valley stock swindler Sam Israel because of his scheme to skip out on a 20-year prison term.
U.S. District Judge Kenneth Karas said Israel, of Armonk, was "thumbing his nose at the system" when he staged a suicide and jumped bail in June 2008.
Israel was convicted in 2005 of scamming hedge fund investors out of hundreds of millions. Prosecutors say he tried to escape going to prison by abandoning his SUV on the Bear Mountain Bridge to make it look like he committed suicide.
