Authorities are trying to determine how a driver ended up on the Taconic State Parkway in the wrong direction. The fiery three-car crash Sunday killed eight.
Authorities said Monday the victims include the 36-year-old minivan driver, Diane Schuler of West Babylon, Long Island, and her 2-year-old daughter, Erin. Also killed were Erin's cousins: 9-year-old Emma Hance, 7-year-old Alison Hance and 5-year-old Kate Hance.
Schuler was an employee of Cablevision, the parent company of News 12.
The other victims in the Hawthorne crash were from Yonkers. They were driver Guy Bastardi; his father, 81-year-old Michael Bastardi; and 74-year-old Daniel Longo.
State police said Monday that Schuler apparently told her brother in a phone call about two hours before the crash that she was feeling ill. He told her to pull over and said he'd go to get her. It's unclear where she was at the time or exactly what occurred after that.
AP wire services were used in this report.
