Suspect found in homeless man's death

Police found a suspect Sunday in the murder of a homeless man whose body was discovered behind the Rockland Drive-In theater in Monsey Saturday morning.
Mariusz Lopata, 20, is a Polish native charged with second-degree murder. Police say Lopata punched and kicked Poland native Eugeniy Kovalev, 54, in the head, face and chest, killing him. No weapons were used.
Police say Lopata arrived at the theater to meet with an acquaintance. They are still searching for a motive in the murder.
The suspect lived in Spring Valley Apartments on West Funston Avenue with family. Joe Howe, manager of the apartment building, says Lopata was expected to return to Poland Saturday.
Lopata was arraigned in Ramapo Justice Court Sunday.
