9/11 events held in Peekskill, Mamaroneck

Ceremonies commemorating the eighth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks were held across Westchester County and throughout the nation Friday.

In Peekskill, members of the community gathered at River Green Park around a memorial depicting a local firefighter on one knee honoring his comrades who died on Sept. 11, 2001.

Peekskill Mayor Mary Foster reflected on the spirit of togetherness and the sense of community that were galvanized by the attacks.

In Mamaroneck, dozens of people gathered inside the memorial greenhouse at the Barnard School in New Rochelle to honor fallen first responders and pay tribute to Amy O'Doherty, who died inside the World Trade Center.
