Sources: GOP to tap Tony Castro for judgeship

News 12 has learned Tuesday that Democrat Tony Castro is expected to drop out of the race for Westchester district attorney to pursue a judicial career.
Sources close to Castro say the GOP will nominate the Rye attorney, who lost last week's Democratic primary, for one of four Supreme Court judgeships in the 9th Judicial District.
According to sources close to the matter, the GOP's decision to nominate a Democrat is meant to pave the way for Castro's supporters in the Independence Party to throw their weight behind Dan Schorr, the only Republican in the race for district attorney.
GOP leaders are expected to announce Castro's nomination Tuesday night.
