County, state crack down on truck accidents

With more than 45 tractor-trailers slamming into Westchester parkway overpasses so far this year, Gov. David Paterson and local officials say a solution to the problem is needed.
Paterson and Westchester County Executive Andy Spano say the cost associated with the accidents is a budget drain. They have proposed doubling penalties on drivers and requiring them to use the more costly commercial GPS devices.
Driver Bob Lenosa, however, says installing additional signs on the roads is a more effective way to prevent accidents than increasing fines.
Paterson says a new law will be submitted to the state Legislature in January.
