Police search for Mount Vernon hit-and-run suspect Leroi Bouche

Police are continuing their massive search effort for hit-and-run suspect Leroi Bouche.

Bouche, 27, is accused of ramming a detective with his car Friday morning at around 7:30 a.m. on Station Place and Lafayette Avenue in Mount Vernon. Police say the Yonkers detective, assigned to the County District Attorney's Narcotics Unit, tried talking with Bouche before he was hit.

Bouche allegedly fled on foot after the accident and police sources told News 12 they believe he switched clothes at a friend's house in Mount Vernon before taking off.

Police spent hours searching the northeastern part of the city. Businesses and residents along East Lincoln Avenue were put into lockdown. At least a dozen schools in Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Tuckahoe and Pelham were also locked down for several hours as police helicopters took to the sky, and bloodhounds and dozens of law enforcement personnel flooded the streets.

Residents say they are concerned for the safety of their children and fellow community members.

Bouche previously served time in a state prison before being acquitted of a homicide charge, and officials say he is known to be a violent individual.

The injured detective, a 14-year veteran on the Yonkers Police Department, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries to the neck and chest. He is currently in stable condition.

Bouche is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him is advised to not approach him, but to call police. Investigators can confirm he has left Mount Vernon.
