Dozens of families are homeless Saturday after a quick-moving fire ripped through the Mountainview Condominium Complex in Valley Cottage.
Firefighters responded to the flames at the condo complex on Sierra Vista Lane about 3 p.m. They went door-to-door, ringing doorbells and knocking to alert residents. Two elderly women were rescued. Firefighters had to leave the building when the roof started to collapse. Officials say they?re surprised more people weren?t at home at the time of the fire. No one was injured.
While investigators aren?t able to pinpoint the cause of the fire, they say it started on the second floor. They say they may never know the cause due to the extent of the destruction. The Red Cross is helping the displaced families.
