Opioid overdose deaths down in Rockland from last year

Opioid overdose deaths in Rockland County have fallen since last year.
Statistics compiled by the Rockland County Department of Mental Health show there were nine deaths this year compared to 17 deaths at this time last year.
While there's no quick cure for opioid addiction, people can now turn to naloxone, or as its better known as, Narcan, to counteract the deadly effects of an opioid overdose.
Narcan is now available at CVS and other pharmacies. Narcan is responsible for saving 15 lives this year.

While it is available to the public, Narcan only buys time to get emergency help for an overdose victim, and is not a permanent antidote.
