Yonkers hosts premiere event for new HBO series

Some cast and crew members from the upcoming series "Show Me a Hero" hit the red carpet outside the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Yonkers Wednesday night.
The new HBO miniseries takes viewers back to Yonkers in the 1980s, when the battle to desegregate the city took center stage.
Some of the former Yonkers leaders who were involved in the actual politics to desegregate the city attended the premiere.
Actor Oscar Isaac plays former Yonkers Mayor Nick Wascisko, who ended up taking his own life. Actor Peter Riegert portrays Oscar Newman, who was instrumental in designing the housing complex on the city's east side. Winona Ryder plays then-City Councilwoman Vincenza Restiano.
Executive producer David Simon says the debate over race and discrimination chronicled in the series is still relevant today.
Another red-carpet screening of the series' first episode was held Tuesday night in Manhattan.
"Show Me a Hero" debuts this Sunday on HBO.
