Man arrested in attempted robbery of mom in yard with son

Police have arrested a suspect who allegedly attempted to rob a mother in New City while she was in the yard with her child.
Officials say 44-year-old Michael Deleo stopped a mother playing with her 4-year-old son Wednesday at around 12 p.m. in her front yard on Pleasant Hill Drive.
They say the suspect lifted his shirt to show the handle of a gun in his waistband. He allegedly told the woman that he had a gun and wouldn't hurt her, but that he wanted her money and jewelry.
Officials say Deleo led the mother to her front door, but then fled in his silver Jeep when the woman's husband opened the door.
Deleo was caught a few minutes later by police, who say they found two unloaded pistols, a gravity knife, a mace canister and a baton in his car.
He was arrested and charged with four felonies, including first-degree robbery.
The suspect is in the Rockland County Jail on $100,000 bail and is due back in court Monday.
