Bears spotted again in Rockland County neighborhoods

Bears and their cubs are again roaming neighborhoods in Rockland County.
The latest sighting was near the intersection of Grandview Avenue and Ashlawn Court in Ramapo.
It appears they are the same bears seen cavorting in a driveway on Skylark Drive Sunday morning. In both cases, police were called to the scene, but the bears had other plans and continued enjoying their freedom.
A little more than a week ago, a mother bear and her three cubs were spotted in Welder Park in Monsey. Police closed the park as a crowd of curious onlookers gathered and the bears scrambled up a tree. The state Department of Environmental Conservation was notified, but it was dark before DEC biologists could get to the park, and the bears were allowed to slip away.
Subsequent sightings appear to be the same bear family.
So far, no one has been injured in any of these incidents. Police are warning residents to be careful, especially around a mother with her cubs.
Bear experts say even if you see cubs, the mother bear may be watching you and waiting to defend her cubs.
