NYPD officer reflects on partner's 2005 robbery death

New York City Police Detective Robert Korn reflected Wednesday on his slain partner, who was killed in a botched robbery that involved actor Lillo Brancato.
NYPD Officer Daniel Enchautegui was killed while responding to a 2005 robbery in the Bronx. The deadly incident involved Yonkers native Brancato, the breakout star from the movie "A Bronx Tale."
Brancato served eight years in prison and was released in 2013. The actor is currently filming and promoting a new movie, but Enchautegui's partner says Brancato doesn't deserve to be in the spotlight.
"I think the focus should be more on Danny, as opposed to on Brancato," said Korn. "People seem to think he's coming back, he's doing X,Y,Z. And then people seem to forget the story of what happened."
Korn stands in solidarity with his fellow officers in law enforcement who are outraged that Brancato gets a second chance while their brother in blue does not.
The New York City PBA president said in a statement, "We will never be able to forgive and forget the role that junkie Lillo Brancato played in the death of hero Police Officer Daniel Enchautegui. To that end, we ask all right-thinking people not to support this thug's acting career by avoiding this movie and any project in which he is involved."
Korn says his focus will always be to keep Officer Enchautegui's memory alive. He says the 40th Precinct has a ceremony every year to remember the fallen officer.
Enchautegui left behind his parents, his sister, a niece and a nephew.
