An NYPD officer from Putnam Valley was killed Friday evening in a crash in Campbell Hall in Orange County, state police say.
She was identified as 25-year-old Juliana Torsiello.
State police say Torsiello was traveling on County Road 51 in Campbell Hall when she lost control on a curve just before 6 p.m.
The NYPD precinct she served for released a statement on social media on Saturday. It says in part:
"Officer Torsiello with only 3 years of service, had already made a name for herself protecting West Harlem."
The car went off the road and rolled over, trapping her inside. Torsiello died at the scene, according to detectives.
Several NYPD members were seen with state police investigators at the scene during the night. The Orange County medical examiner was also present.
It was not immediately clear as of Saturday evening what caused the accident.
