State police have begun a crackdown on drunken driving for the Memorial Day weekend.

They warn that drivers will be arrested and could lose their license if caught driving under the influence.

In Stamford, police held a sobriety checkpoint on Glenbrook Road. Over the course of an hour they made six arrests.

Police say they'll be on the lookout for people not wearing seat belts, distracted drivers and tailgating. Police also encourage drivers to call 911 if they see a suspected drunken driver.

Last year, police say they made 30 arrests over the holiday weekend.
