State high school athletics officials said Monday that some winter sports can prepare for play, but others might not be played at all.
Sports given the green light include bowling, swimming, diving, indoor track, gymnastics and skiing - which have been deemed low-to-moderate risk activities.
Basketball, wrestling, hockey and competitive cheerleading remain up in the air due to COVID-19 rising in New York. The state labeled those sports as "high risk" - they are all also played indoors.
Practice for winter sports is scheduled to being Nov. 30.
It's not clear if the directive for high school sports will also apply to club teams and youth sports.
