Gov. Paterson will hold an emergency legislative meeting Tuesday to discuss the state?s budget.Paterson?s proposal to cut $1 billion from the state?s budget will drastically affect Medicaid, education and local governments throughout the state.
He is being met with opposition by many lawmakers who are suggesting other alternatives like creating early retirement incentives, a new millionaire?s tax and a bill that would require the state to collect taxes on cigarette sales by Indian tribes. Their plan could bring in $400 million.
Republicans are expected to fight for a property tax cap.
