A state grant will go toward building a memorial to pay tribute at a slave burial ground that was discovered last year in Drake Park.
Last year, students from P.S. 48 found the burial ground, which dates back hundreds of years.
After the Museum of New York City published photos of the burial ground, students at P.S. 48 continued to search for more using old newspapers and maps.
Neighborhood leaders are now doing everything they can to preserve the historical site, including an attempt to add it to the National Register of Historic Places.
The state budget includes $180,000 to go toward a memorial at the site.
