Starting next month, Central Hudson customers will see a rate increase on their utility bills.

The change comes as part of an overall $49 million rate hike approved by the Public Service Commission. On average, this will cost customers $25 more per bill.

The set plan will raise bills a few dollars each year over the coming three years, starting in July.

Central Hudson originally requested nearly double the amount approved to pay for technology investments and infrastructure repairs, according to the Public Service Commission.

Commission Chair John B. Rhodes issued a statement on the approved plan, saying, "Not only was it better than the plan submitted by the utility, but it advances the state's climate agenda, expands energy-efficiency and investments."

The new plan also includes rate decreases for low-income customers and eliminates fees to pay in-person or by debit and credit cards.
