Staff at Good Samaritan Hospital celebrated a major victory Thursday as one of their first COVID-19 patients finally headed home after 144 days in the hospital.
Rudy Diaz, 41, of Spring Valley, was admitted to the hospital April 13. Diaz went on to fight the longest battle of any of the hospital's COVID-19 patients.
Diaz was met with cheers from the men and women who helped save his life.
"Thank you everybody," says Diaz. "God is good."
Dr. Jonathan Berg, a physician in the ICU, says Diaz represents how the staff devotes their time and energy to helping others.
Diaz is looking forward to spending time with his family.
