Spring Valley Haitians want answers after shooting
Members of Spring Valley's Haitian community are calling for a private investigation into the fatal shooting of one of their own outside a bar early this morning. According to police, 48-year-old Herve Gilles was attacking an officer outside El Buen Gusto Bar on East Furman Avenue when he was shot in the head and torso. Friends of the victim say he had a history of mental illness and a minor arrest record, but that he was never violent. "I've never known Herve to have a weapon of any sort," a friend said. "But, he was a little disturbed." Those who knew Gilles say they doubt the police reports, and are demanding that an outside agency looks into the case. For extended footage of the fatal police shooting in Spring Valley, click on iO Extra on Channel 612.
