Members of the Spring Valley community came out to protest Tuesday after police officers were caught on camera punching a suspect.
The video from July 2 shows two officers in a physical altercation with a man.
The police are on top of the man, throwing punches at him.
The Spring Valley Police Department posted details on its Facebook page. The department said the man, Tyrell Bridgers, violated a protection order with the mother of his child and was resisting arrest and threw punches at the officers.
Police say Bridgers was arrested in May for laying a hand on her and that one of the officers was also aware of the fact that the suspect "...had a history of threatening and violent behavior and was known to have possessed firearms and less than a week ago was arrested for smashing out a governmental employee's car window with a brick."
The officers used a Taser on Bridgers and handcuffed him.
Protesters say the police are excusing their behavior captured in the video. They say there needs to be a better relationship between police and the community.
