Spread a little kindness: Students design jar to inspire classmates
Saying something nice can go a long way, especially if you’re having a bad day.
That's the idea behind kindess jars, a new initiative at a northern Westchester elementary school.
Emma Steinberg and Gianna Comunale are fourth-grade girls from Somers Elementary School who created the jars by using markers and stickers to decorate them.  The jars, which are filled with positive messages, will be placed around their school starting next week.
Students will be able to open the jars up and pull out a piece of paper with an inspirational quote. The girls hope the little pieces of paper will show that there is always someone who cares.
The 9-year-olds are making the jars at home and will distribute them to other Somers schools next week.
Statistics show about one-third of students experience bullying and only a third of those students report the behavior.
