Mayor Bill de Blasio's plan for safer streets in the borough is closer to becoming a reality.
Four miles of Southern Boulevard and three miles of Gun Hill Road will become a slow zone as part of the Vision Zero initiative.
The Southern Boulevard slow zone begins at Southern and Bruckner boulevards and ends at Fordham Road. On Gun Hill Road, the zone is from Jerome Avenue to the Thruway.
According to the DOT, the Southern Boulevard zone has seen three fatalities in the past six years. It also says that since 2008, four pedestrians have been killed in accidents crossing throughout the 3-mile stretch of Gun Hill Road.
