An hourslong standoff in Putnam County between police and an armed man may have ended with the suspect taking his own life, according to sources.
According to the Putnam County sheriff, the SWAT team and other law enforcement agencies responded to reports of a man barricaded in his home on Nichols Road in the town of Southeast.
The man allegedly threatened to shoot himself and any police officers who tried to enter.
When police arrived, sources say they heard gunshots from inside the home.
Authorities evacuated the neighborhood and locked down Nichols Road.
Full details of the standoff remain unclear, but sources say authorities tried to contact the man unsuccessfully for several hours. It appears as though he killed himself during the standoff.
Neighbors say no one else was hurt.
