A Somers man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Wednesday for killing his father in his Long Island apartment last August.
Mulumba Kazigo, 26, admitted to beating his father, Doctor Joseph Kazigo, with a bat and slitting his throat after decades of family violence. He then dumped the body in a wooded area not far from the family's home in Westchester County. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter in exchange for a reduced term.
The 67-year-old doctor was an emergency room surgeon at Nassau University Medical Center. He lived with his family in Westchester, but used the Long Island apartment when he worked late.
Mulumba Kazigo's mother, a brother and sister all wrote to Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, pleading for a term of less than 20 years.
