Savona Trattoria in Poughkeepsie is among the many businesses hiring to bounce back from the coronavirus pandemic.
Savona’s Trattoria director of business development Jessica Lopez says the company is currently hiring in all three locations.
"Its certainly not been easy and it's been a learning experience, but we're just happy to be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel,” says Lopez.
Fortunately, employees at the Poughkeepsie business say their patio is full and people seem excited to be out of quarantine.
State data shows thousands of current job openings, and the top three industries hiring are health care, sales and clerical work.
Mike Oates, president and CEO of Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation, says the rebound could take a while.
"We're gonna see challenges leading into the summer and into the fall. Businesses and consumers need to learn how to function in this new reality,” says Oates.
Although it may take a while to return to normalcy, he says the Hudson Valley has positive qualities to succeed.
"Strong academic institutions, great infrastructure, highly skilled workforce, we have access to capital markets,” says Oates. “All of those pieces will allow us to say this is where I want to do business.”
