Restaurants are finding creative ways to stay afloat during the coronavirus pandemic, including a new tool on social media that could help drum up business.
People can now buy food found on Instagram and have it delivered to their homes.
Westchester Taco Grill is among the growing number of local restaurants adding the "Order Food" button to their Instagram pages to help garner more business.
The New Rochelle restaurant says business is down 50% as neighboring Iona College is closed, meaning students are no longer placing orders.
Manager Jeury Gonzalez says utilizing Instagram has been a huge help.
"Everyone's on social media now and it helps tremendously," he says.
Another business turning to Instagram is Brothers Fish and Chips in Ossining.
"Everything has changed, the way people order how much they spend, the choices of food they get, everything," says owner and chef Elmer Oliveros,
Oliveros says the social media app is helping him reach longtime patrons and new customers.
"It's a really great tool to have right now especially because we don't have time to reach out to an advertising company, there is no money, so Instagram is free," he says.
Businesses are also utilizing stickers in their Instagram stories, allowing customers to place orders and buy gift cards.
