The snow-packed, slippery roads in Fishkill were treacherous Thursday night.
With about 6 inches on the ground by 8 p.m., some roads were impassable. The storm caused a number of accidents, with huge, wet flakes coating the roads so quickly that plows weren't able to keep up.
One woman from Fishkill told News 12 her drive home that normally takes 20 minutes took over an hour on Thursday.
A plow driver even told News 12 he hadn't seen as many car accidents in one night in a long time.
"A lot of them off the road, into the ditches. Accidents, embankments and stuff. So it's not pretty right now," said Dave Begany, of Fishkill.
The Highway Department told News 12 it was doing all it could to keep up with the storm, but it caught everyone by surprise.
