The snow caused near-whiteout conditions Wednesday in and around Mount Vernon.
There were near-whiteout conditions on the southbound Saw Mill River Parkway in Yonkers heading toward Mount Vernon. On the Cross County Parkway, car after car was disabled, skidding or sliding on snow-covered roadways.
Utility crews worked in Mount Vernon as the snow fell to replace fallen power lines from Friday's nor'easter, which had left 110 downed trees and more than 2,000 outages there.
“The power outages from Friday is really a display of pathetic management and the management of Con Ed gets an epic fail on this. The crews that are out there doing dangerous work, we thank them, we celebrate them and we look forward to continuing to support them as they continue to turn the lights back on in the city,” said Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas.
