In 90 days, residents will have to be 21 years old to buy tobacco products in Rockland County.
The legislation raising the age was passed in a 12-1 bipartisan vote. After County Executive Ed Day sent the legislation back unsigned and without veto, the law officially passed.
Pat Colbert, the assistant manager at Aladdin Glass & Vape in Nanuet, said he thinks that increase in age is a good thing.
"I think it’s a step in the right direction,” said Colbert.
The Rockland County community has until the 90 days are up to prepare for the move from 18 to 21. Businesses could face fines up to $2,000 per violation.
