Sleepy Hollow students pledge not to use offensive word
Students at one local high school are banding together to remove a word from their vocabulary.
Sleepy Hollow High School students want to ban the word "retard." On Tuesday, they wore T-shirts that said "Disable the Label," and pledged not to use the word.
The hope is that by making the pledge, students will think about the words they use and the attitudes they have.
For seven years, the school has been partnering with the JCC on the Hudson. General education students mentor and make friends with their special-needs peers.
