Riverside residents of Sleepy Hollow want a retired FDNY boat removed from the water.

It was used by first responders during the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks. 

"It went to lower Manhattan and people jumped on the boat to get away from the buildings collapsing," says Edward Taylor, one of three men who saved the John D. McKean fireboat from a scrap yard. "She's done everything from being a rescue boat, putting out fires, to transporting Smokey the Bear across the river. So it's a piece of Americana."

Then the same boat towed an airplane out of the Hudson River after it landed there in an emergency.

Now it sits at a Hudson River dock in Sleepy Hollow, where some neighbors say it's an eyesore.

Stella Garlick is among the critics. She says it's moored illegally and that it creates environmental and safety hazards. 

"That boat certainly belongs as a memorial, and no one is disputing that," Garlick says. "We just feel that this is not the right spot for it."

The village's mayor agrees, and the Army Corps of Engineers is expected to get involved.
